Eser Önsel Silistra

I was born in Istanbul in 1966. After completing my undergraduate studies in Mechanical Engineering at Boğaziçi University, I earned my master's degrees in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at Graz Technical University and Marmara University. Later, I graduated from the Philosophy Department at Istanbul University.

Working in a professional world for a very long time only helped me understand how the concept of professionalism can instantly destroy everything that makes us human, and how it can engrave the idea that another life is impossible into our souls. My childhood dream of "writing" left me, never to return. When I could distance myself from everything and look at myself, all that remained was a little color, a little emotion.

Rather than becoming nothing in a false paradise, I tried to be content with what remained, to simply exist. A pile of paper, cloth, clay, and colors. Thinking, "It's customary to give a name to whatever we create," I decided that these should be called "paintings and ceramics," and that's how they'll be recorded. That's my story, that's all...
